Constructed Imagery: AI & Photoshop with Fran Forman (Online)

The Griffin Museum, in collaboration with Fran Forman, is excited to present this online workshop, which introduces a process for creating new imagery through a combination of photography, Photoshop, and AI programs.

If you're interested in creating imaginative, constructed images using both photographic sources and AI tools, this class is for you. We won't be aiming for realism, nor will we call these works photographs in the traditional sense. Instead, we'll explore image-making as a collaboration between your camera, your imagination, Photoshop, and AI platforms such as MidJourney (though you may use any comparable tool). You may work with your own photographs as raw material, or generate new imagery from text prompts. We'll move back and forth between Photoshop and AI, refining, combining, and transforming elements until your final piece feels truly your own. And if time permits, we'll push further -- experimenting with giving your images movement or animating subtle transitions.

We'll also devote time to lively discussion: What is a photograph in an AI era? What constitutes art? Does the use of digital prompts and algorithms change the value or meaning of the work? Together we'll engage critically and creatively with the rapidly evolving world of AI-assisted image-making.This class requires Intermediate to Advanced Photoshop skills and an active subscription to MidJourney or another text- or image-to-image AI program.
