Intro to Steel Drums Workshop (Youth)

Are you interested in trying Steel Drums (also known as Steel Pans)?
Join WCMS's Laurie Russell and Sara McCabe for a fun and relaxed workshop at the Winchester Recreation Department. You'll learn about the history of these incredible instruments from Trinidad and Tobago, receive instruction on how to play, and learn a new song together each session. You can attend any workshop or join all three. No musical background is required.

Youth Workshop (ages 10-17): 6:00-7:00 PM, with optional guided practice 7:00-7:20 PM
Adult Workshop (ages 18+): 7:30-8:30 PM, with optional guided practice 8

Join us July 22nd - July 26th, from 10am - 4pm for Introduction to Handmade Photobook Binding with Eliot Dudik. In this 5-day intensive course, we will begin with editing and sequencing techniques for the photographs you have brought with you to the Griffin Museum that represent a project you have been toying with or deeply engaged in. We will discuss strategies for approaching an edit and sequence for differing types of work that tease out meaning and/or narrative. Are you ready to fit the whole world into a single photo?

Spherical Panoramas (a.k.a tiny planets or photospheres) are part of our everyday life, including street view in Google Maps, online realty listings and most recently the advent of Apple's Vision Pro virtual reality computer headset. Yet one application of this practice has proven to be especially attractive to artistic photographers around the world, the 2D stereographic projection commonly known as Tiny Planets.

When applied as an art form the 360º x 180º view of a location becomes a 2D square, circular or rectangular frame

You'll learn ways to develop your child's early literacy skills, and we'll leave a little time at the end of each session for participants to chat with each other.
